About CCTV camera:
CCTV is
acronym for Closed Circuit Television.
CCTV cameras are used to produce images and recordings for surveillance.
It transmits a signal to a specific range and to limited monitors. The
difference between a broadcasted television and CCTV is that the broadcast
signal transmits the signal openly unlike CCTV. There is wide variety in CCTV
cameras. Some are large and out in the open and might serve simply to deter
criminals entering your house and some are tiny and meant to stay hidden from
view.

Working of CCTV
Camera:
There
are different types of CCTV systems available - analog/ digital, wired/wireless
etc. The mode of operation varies
between different types of systems.
Basic components like camera, lens, monitor and cables remain same in
all types.
The
image is captured and sent to CCTV Monitor and saved to VCR or DVR (Digital
Video Recording) as digital information. The CCTV Lens determines how far and
how clear the image can be captured.
In
wireless systems, CCTV Camera senses the signal from the area being monitored
and in wired systems the CCTV Camera passes the signal to monitor through the
coaxial cable.
Functioning
of monitors can be watched by the unit called CCTV Controllers or they can be
left unmonitored.
DVR’s
are now available with Motion Recording and Event Notification. When set to
motion recording, the CCTV Camera will only record when it senses motion. Event
Notification is the process of sending the text message, recorded telephone
message or e-mail when motion is detected.
The recorded message can be reviewed or shown
to the one having access to the recordings on his/her convenience. Many DVR’s
also have network connections so that the recording can be seen remotely
through a PC over the internet.
A Multi Camera CCTV
System:
A
CCTV System can have multiple cameras to capture multiple images. The system
does not require different monitors for different cameras, all the cameras
share the same single monitor and hard disc recorder. A unit splits the monitor
in multiple screens to display multiple images captured by different cameras. A
sequence unit is used to choose the camera whose image you want to see. There
is also an automatic mode which would sequence between the cameras to show the
respective images.
The
most common way of controlling multiple cameras is multiplexer. Historically
multiplexer and recording units were separate pieces of equipment but from
recent years, manufacturers provide both functions in single equipment.

In
around 70% of cases, CCTV footage is found to be inadmissible as evidence in
court of law because the quality of evidence is considered inadequate. This can
result from the poor design or bad installation of the system.
